Description
Charles Negre’s Photogravures: Drawn from Works in Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston by Anne Havinga and Annette Manick
The museum’s senior curator of photographs Anne Havinga and her colleague, paper conservator Annette Manick, share their research into Charles Nègre’s search for image permanence through ink-based photomechanical methods. Using the museum’s extensive collection of Nègre photogravures, Havinga and Manick trace the ways in which this photographic pioneer strove to retain all of a photograph’s original information when transferring it to a metal plate and how he labored to retain the image’s aesthetics.
Presented at the 2023 Daguerreian Symposium on September 29, 2023.
